About the Tri-City Record

The Tri-City Record is your locally owned community newspaper serving Coloma, Hartford, Watervliet, and the surrounding area. Each week, we bring readers local news, school and sports coverage, community events, and the stories of the people who make our three towns home.

Our roots stretch back to 1882, when the newspaper was established as the Weekly Record. Publisher and editor A.N. Woodruff renamed it the Watervliet Record in 1890. The Case family owned and operated the paper for 68 years before Winifred Case, widow of Francis Case, sold it to Gordon and Joan Banasik in 1959.

Anne and Karl Bayer purchased the newspaper in February 1984 and renamed it the Tri-City Record that October, reflecting its service to all three communities. Through the years, the paper has documented generations of local life, preserving everything from major milestones to the everyday moments that might otherwise go unrecorded.

In August 2026, longtime staff member and graphic designer Joshua Coffin purchased the newspaper, becoming its owner, editor, and co-publisher alongside his brother, Tyler. Together with our team of local writers and staff, the brothers are helping carry the Record into its next chapter, bringing a fresh design, new ideas, and a shared commitment to the communities it serves.

We believe a hometown newspaper should be useful, familiar, and worth spending time with. It should help you understand what’s happening at city hall, celebrate a student’s accomplishments, discover a local business, and feel connected to your neighbors. Most of all, it should reflect the community it serves.

Whether you’ve read the Record for decades or are opening it for the first time, we’re glad you’re here. These are your towns, your stories, and your newspaper.
