For the Love of Lakes, visit Mattson’s House of Décor

By Teresa Smithers Do you love everything lake? Mattson’s House of Décor is all about lakes. Whether your love is for Paw Paw Lake, Sister Lakes, Rush Lake, Lake Michigan or any other lake, this is the premier place to visit for lake décor for your home or cottage, or just to proclaim your lake love. In this unassuming store just north of Coloma, shoppers can find T-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, bags, mugs, blankets, hats, cozies, signs, pillows and much more bearing the name of one lake or another. (And if you cannot find your lake, custom work is also available.)

Mattson’s House of Décor has been in operation since 1976 when John and June Mattson opened it as an interior decorators’ shop, offering paint, wallpaper and flooring. Their daughter, Kimberly Mattson, who inherited her mother’s eye for decorating, bought them out in 1989. Since then, Mattson’s has evolved into the upscale gift and souvenir shop it is.

“We have made many changes through the years,” states Kimberly, “and as a result, we have a great mix with many one-of-a-kind items.”

Looking for a unique gift? Walk in the door of Mattson’s House of Décor and you will be engulfed in beauty, lights and color. As you make your way through the goods, you will find jewelry, Bohemian tops, repurposed goods and even vintage items tucked here and there.

Don’t miss a stroll on the back porch and into the garden.

Take a stroll through the back porch and garden and you will find beautiful wind spinners and unique yard ornaments. The store also offers crafts from local artists as well as the handiwork of Mattson herself. “I like to give new life to old pieces,” she explains. At Mattson’s you can find that special unique gift or the finishing touch to your home decorating.

Kimberly Mattson is also a certified window dealer, offering custom window treatments, specializing in shutters, shades and blinds. Free in-home estimates are available. Contact Kim at 269-468-7953 or send an email to mattsons7953@yahoo.com.

Mattson’s House of Décor is located at 6472 Paw Paw Avenue, Coloma, Michigan, directly across from the Rite Aide store. Hours are Monday thru Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
