The Coloma Charter Township Board met on Jan. 11, 2023 at the Coloma Charter Township Hall to tend to monthly business.
Changes to the Planning Commission
The board announced that John Lamoreaux was leaving the Planning Commission, stating that he chose to step down as his life activities are taking him in a different direction. On the other side of the coin, the board welcomed North Berrien Fire Rescue Chief Mike Mattix, Mark Cowell, and Kevin Hickmott to the Planning Commission. All three new members hope to help make a difference in a positive way.
Property Tax update
The township has extended the property tax due date to Feb. 28, 2023.
Purchase of new fire truck gets full approval
The North Berrien Fire Rescue department was able to get the approval needed from Coloma Charter Township board for the purchase of a new fire truck. After getting approval from Hagar Township and City of Coloma, this was the last stop to make for Chief Matrix. All three municipalities voted to purchase the fire truck with no money down. Chief Mattix stated that the bill time was extended to 860 days, but the fire truck could be purchased sooner. More details to come.
Looking ahead
The Coloma Public Library will be holding an art competition and showcase for youth on Feb. 11, 2023 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. who have experienced foster care. The theme for this Art for the Cause event is ‘What Inspires You?’. The age divisions includes, 0-5 Vincent Van Gogh Division, 6-10 Jacob Lawrence Division, 11-15 Gustav Klimt Division and, 16 and up Yayoi Kusma Division. Prizes for each age group are as follows: $100 gift card for 1st place, $25 gift card for 2nd place, $10 gift card for all other participants.
The following is required to participate: Painting, drawing, or illustration no larger than 24 inches in length or width. The Coloma Public Library looks forward to seeing all the amazing art creations.
The North Berrien Community Development Committee announced their annual St. Patrick’s Day parade will be held on March 11, 2023. More details to come.
The next meeting of the Coloma Charter Township Board will be held on Feb. 8, 2023 at 7 p.m.
