Hunters, I have heard from many of you about the ridiculous mandated reporting requirements the DNR instituted this year for the deer hunting season. This mandate went through without any legislative oversight or approval and now threatens to slap everyday folks with misdemeanors, ninety-day jail sentences, and $500 fines if they do not complete the report within seventy-two hours of the harvest. Additionally, the DNR will ask for some personal information on these reports – including the weapon used and location of the harvest – but has ignored the crucial privacy concerns that many hunters have expressed with the retention of this information.
