FIVE AND DIME... replaced with dollar stores. That’s right, despite the names, not all dollar stores sell every item in the store for just a dollar or less. Family Dollar and Dollar Tree are actual dollar stores (for the most part). The parent company recently announced it will sell items in certain locations for more than its typical $1 price. Dollar General stores never had a price cap. Real dime stores faded into the sunset on Main Street USA in the late 70s. Big box stores populated strip malls until all of them got squeezed out by the bigger box stores.
