Watervliet District Library news
This holiday season families are welcome to stop by Santa’s Workshop in the Watervliet District Library Community Room until Dec. 18. Christmas cards, ornaments and a handmade gift can be created at multiple stations any time during open hours. All supplies are provided. No registration is required.
Teens and pre-teens are invited to participate in the December “Disguise a Gingerbread Man” Contest, now through Dec. 21. Pick up a gingerbread figure at the library and take it back in disguise before the 22nd. The winner will receive a $5 gift card to a favorite fast-food franchise.
The Library of Michigan and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services are partnering to support the ability of older Michigan residents to access live, online virtual classes on a variety of topics through GetSetUp. The classes are free to Michigan residents, and can be accessed through the library’s website by clicking on the “Get Set Up” box at the top on the home page.
Find the Library Elf on the Shelf and pick up a sweet treat at the desk. A clue will be posted in the library each day concerning the elf’s whereabouts, through Dec. 22.
The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic, has been chosen as the 3rd Monday Book Club’s December pick. Although often considered a book for children, The Little Prince’s observations about life are also appropriately suited for adults. Copies are available for anyone wishing to attend on Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.

Reindeer Games for Teens
Teens, wear your ugliest Christmas sweater and attend for games, prizes, movies and hot cocoa in the library’s Community Room on Friday, Dec. 17 from 1-3 p.m. Absolutely free to attend!
Christmas Ornaments Around the World
The public is invited Monday, Dec. 20 at 1:30 p.m. for a hands-on, informative presentation for all ages with presenter Kerry Binnington about Christmas ornaments from around the world.
Toddler/PreK Story Times
Interactive story times with music, movement, and a craft are at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.
Grab n’Go Craft Kits
Kits will be in the library lobby on the Curbside Cart Thursdays starting at 10 a.m. Make a craft in the Children’s Department or take it to do at home for preschool to school-aged children. Available while supplies last.
Paws for Reading
Certified therapy dogs, Margaret and Pailey are in the Children’s Department for weekly reading sessions on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This program is intended for school-aged children, kindergarten and older. Each individual literacy session will be 15 minutes. Contact the library to preregister your child. Masks are required for the safety of children and the dogs with exceptions for children medically unable to wear masks.
Book Club
The Coloma Public Library Book Club meets every other Thursday in the Community Room at 4 p.m. The public is welcome to participate. The next book club discussion is Dec. 16. Contact the library for the reading list.
