Limiting government, protecting your retirement savings

In recent years, Democrats in Washington, D.C. have forced their policies on the American people, often turning to bureaucrats at federal agencies to enact an out-of-touch agenda that couldn’t get passed in Congress.

As a member of the Financial Services Committee, I regularly see this tactic used by financial regulators, particularly, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC’s mandate is to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation.

However, under Chairman Gary Gensler, the SEC has actively sought to expand its authority into areas well outside the bounds of what Congress intended. Look no further than his push to normalize Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) policies in boardrooms across this country. This once-in-a-generation shift to appease the far-left will damage not only public, but private companies across America.

Now that Republicans control one chamber of Congress, conducting oversight and restoring accountability to the Biden Administration will be a major area of focus.

I am excited to share with you that in addition to being the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman on the House Financial Services Committee, I will also be leading the first-of-its-kind ESG Working Group.

The purpose of this working group is to develop a comprehensive approach to ESG that protects the financial interests of everyday investors and ensures our capital markets remain the envy of the world.

If you have a pension, 401K, IRA, or any type of retirement account, the issue of ESG impacts you. The federal government should not be making it harder for residents across Southwest Michigan to save for retirement or reduce financial security for those already retired.

Promoting vibrant capital markets, defending retail investors, and restoring the standing of Congress can be achieved but Washington cannot pick winners and losers through an unchecked regulatory bureaucracy that mandates “woke” policies on American job creators.

My top priority is serving Southwest Michigan. If you need help navigating a federal agency, please visit Huizenga.House.Gov or call my office in Holland at (616) 251-6741 or Washington at (202) 225-4401 so we can assist you.
