Please don’t throw me away

Hearing a parent tell a rowdy son or daughter, “If you don’t stop, I’m going to leave you here,” is painful. I feel pity for both the child and parent. For the child, because that kind of verbal trauma can undermine so much in that child’s life. I pity the parent because of their insensitivity to the destructive power of such words as they are replayed over and over again in the child’s mind. How sad that we would become so frustrated that we stoop to threaten to abandon a child.
