MIMTSS awarded to Watervliet District schools; Middle School students approved for overnight bridge building challenge trip
Watervliet Public Schools Board of Education acknowledged in their business meeting on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024 that the Michigan Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MIMTSS) implemented by the state Department of Education has recognized all four district campuses. The system evaluates how a school is meeting the needs of all learners, as in, if they need to catch up or they need assistance in advancing. North, Middle and High schools got the Bronze Award and South School received the Silver Award.

Watervliet Township board schedules public hearing on Paw Paw Lake mute swans problem; speeds on Forest Beach Road under discussion
One item on the Watervliet Charter Township board meeting agenda held Oct. 21, 2024 concerns the invasive mute swans around Paw Paw Lake area. A representative from the Paw Paw Lake Association spoke with the board members regarding the removal of this nuisance. There was a request last month for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to capture and relocate and release Canada geese from Paw Paw Lake. This action was approved by the board. City of Watervliet hires Rory Bell as Public Works Director; City Manager/ Police Chief contract approved
At the Watervliet City Commission meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024 the board approved the contract with Tim Sutherland as Police Chief and City Manager. Legal council had reviewed the contract prior to approval. No information was given on pay rate or how Sutherland’s time would be divided between positions.
