MARCH IS READING MONTH… Amanda Morlock-Fisher, a Watervliet School Board member, and Snoopy read to students in Mrs. Griffith’s Kindergarten classroom at Watervliet South Elementary on Thursday last week. They read a book called Snoopy for President to all the Kindergarten classrooms for Watervliet Public Schools.


Coloma American Legion hosting benefit dinner Saturday for Linda Marler

On Saturday, March 14 American Legion Post 362 in Coloma is having a Mostaccioli Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. All proceeds from this event will go to Linda Marler. Linda has been a bartender at the Coloma American Legion Post for over 40 years. She is having health issues and the Post has planned this benefit to help her with expenses. The cost of the dinner is $7 and includes mostaccioli, garlic bread and salad. There will be 50/50 tickets, drawings and auctions. The public is invited. Post 362 is located at the corner of East St. Joseph Avenue and Sassafras Street in Coloma.

Burger Night at Coloma American Legion, March 19

Everyone is invited to Burger Night Thursday, March 19 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 362 in Coloma. They will be serving hamburgers, cheeseburgers and French fries. Post 362 is located at the corner of East St. Joseph and Sassafras streets.

Michigan State Police to host recruiting seminar

The Michigan State Police (MSP) will host a recruiting seminar on Saturday, March 21 at Southwestern Michigan College, 58900 Cherry Grove Road in Dowagiac from 10 a.m. until noon. Attendees are asked to arrive by 9:45 a.m. The seminar will be hosted in the activity center off Dailey Road. Recognizing the importance of a diverse workforce, the MSP is committed to reflecting the communities it serves. This free seminar will explain the variety of career opportunities available as well as insight and answers on recruit training, the lifestyle of a trooper and positions available. Grace Christian School annual Open House March 17,

Grace Christian School (GCS) of Watervliet will be hosting its annual Open House on Tuesday, March 17 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. The Open House will start off at 5:00 with a complimentary Chili Dinner. Following the dinner, those families who are interested in enrolling for school year 2020-2021 will be given tours of classrooms and have the opportunity to meet the staff of Grace Christian. Grace Christian is a Pre-K thru 12th grade school and is the only non-denominational Christian school in the tri-county area. They are now enrolling for Fall of 2020. Visit www.gcspatriots.org.

Republican Women’s Club

The Berrien County Republican Women’s Club will hold the first general meeting of 2020 on March 18 at noon at Pebblewood Restaurant in Bridgman. Three speakers will be welcomed to speak about their role on the topic of “Women in Politics”. Berrien County Register of Deeds, Lora Freehling, will represent the local level; Taylor Frasier, Regional Field Organizer for Team Trump, will represent the regional level; and Robyn Peake, President of the Republican Women’s Federation of Michigan, will represent the State level. Each speaker has a uniquely different involvement in this field to share with the group. The luncheon buffet is $15, payable at the door. The meeting is open to the public.
