Coloma author announces new book; Bittner’s 70th title available locally, nationally, and on Amazon.com

Rosanne Bittner, from Coloma, has announced the publication of her 70th book, Logan’s Lady (Sourcebooks). The story is set in 1870 Kansas and is about a bounty hunter and a titled “Lady” from London, England, who lands in trouble when she comes to America to invest in gold mines and ranching. The book has received rave reviews, including from Publisher’s Weekly – “Bittner makes an implausible premise feel absolutely real … fast-paced and touching, this historical is not to be missed.”

PRESTIGIOUS AWARD WINNERS… CW Tech Robotarians, a FRC robotics team from Coloma, Watervliet, Michigan Lutheran, Lake Michigan Catholic, Bridgman and Eau Claire high schools, won the Chairman’s Award at a FIRST robotics competition in Shepherd, Michigan on March 30. The Chairman’s Award is the most prestigious award offered by FIRST robotics. It honors the team that best represents a model for other teams to emulate and best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST robotics. Team 2959 earned the award through their outreach efforts, including a political campaign to support testing for the eye condition, convergence insufficiency. The team also promotes science and technology through demonstrations at different venues such as the Berrien County Youth Fair, senior living centers and the Maker’s Faire. The Robotarians won the award previously in 2016, the first team in Berrien County to do so. The team will now advance to the state finals in Saginaw from April 10-13. CW Tech also won the Entrepreneurship Award at their first district event in St. Joseph. The team is coached by Dr. Dale Quattrin, engineering and CAD instructor at Coloma High School.



Easter Egg Hunt in Hartford April 13 On Saturday, April 13 at 1:00 p.m. the Van Buren Sportsmen’s Club is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt in Hartford’s Ely Park. In the event of rain, the hunt will be held on Saturday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m.

Annual Lion’s Easter Egg Hunt at Watervliet Hays Park April 20 The annual Watervliet Lion’s Easter Egg Hunt will be held at Hays Park in Watervliet on Saturday, April 20 with an 11 a.m. start. Children age 0-10 years are invited to participate. They will be divided by age: 0-3, 4-5, 6-7-8, and 9-10. No baskets will be allowed on the field except for the 0-3 age group.

Coloma United Methodist Easter Celebrations The public is invited to join the congregation of Coloma United Methodist Church in this Easter season of reflection and celebration. Sunday, April 14 will be a Palm/Passion Worship Service beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a Coffee Fellowship at Coloma UMC, 144 S. Church Street. April 18 there is a Holy Thursday Service at 7 p.m. and this will be at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1650 N. Bainbridge Center Rd. in Watervliet. April 19 is Good Friday and a service will be held at 7 p.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church, 4401 Fikes Rd. in Riverside. Easter Sunday, April 21, a Sunrise

Service will be held at 7:15 a.m. at Coloma United Methodist Church followed by a Coffee Fellowship. A 10 a.m. Easter Service celebration will also be held at Coloma UMC on Easter Sunday. Any questions, please call the church office at 269-468-6062.

Ladies Good Friday breakfast in Hartford Hartford United Methodist Women invite all area ladies to join them for their annual Good Friday breakfast and program on April 19 at 9:30 a.m. The church is located at 425 E. Main Street. Reservations are not needed and there is no cost. Donations will be accepted.

Good Friday service at Plymouth Congregational Church All are welcome to Plymouth Congregational Church in Watervliet for a Good Friday service remembering our Lord Jesus Christ’s willing sacrifice for each of us. The service will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 19, and is open to the community. The church is located at the corner of First Street and Red Arrow Highway.

Palm Sunday & Easter Sunday events for Watervliet Free Methodist Church Palm Sunday, April 14 will be a special day at Watervliet Free Methodist Church with the children presenting “Should Have Been Me” during Morning Worship at 10:30. The youth will host “Journey to the Cross” between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. at the church. This is a powerful interactive program that invites families to experience the road to Calvary and the path to the empty tomb. At their own pace, participants will travel through several stations that tell different parts of the Easter story. Easter Sunday, April 21 will begin with a SONrise Service at 8:45 a.m. Special music will be provided by Lonnie and Rebecca Hoyt. Breakfast will follow at 9:30 a.m. The Hoyts will also participate during Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m. as celebration of The Risen Christ continues. Everyone is invited to attend services and activities at Watervliet Free Methodist Church for the Easter season and throughout the year. Freshwater Community Church Easter Egg Hunt on Easter morning Sunday, April 21 at 10:00 a.m. the Freshwater Community Church is having an Easter Egg Hunt at Coloma Middle School following an 8:00 a.m. sunrise service. Everyone is invited. There will be lots of great prizes!


New Day Church Easter Service Pastor Scott T. Saylor of New Day Church, 416 W. Pleasant St. in Watervliet is conducting an Easter morning service on Sunday, April 21 at 11 a.m. They will have a youth egg hunt immediately following the service. The service is open to the public.

Coloma American Legion Lenten Fish Fry every Friday through April 19 Every Friday during Lent, through April 19, the Coloma American Legion Post 362 is hosting a Lenten Fish Fry from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Fish dinners include au gratin potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, bread and coffee and cost $10 each. All you can eat fish dinners are $13. Children ages 4 to 12 are $5 each and children 3 and younger eat for free. Takeouts are available by calling 269-468-5501. Coloma American Legion Post 362 is located at 351 E. St. Joseph St. in Coloma.
