NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

TO THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE CITY OF WATERVLIET, BERRIEN COUNTY, MICHIGAN AND ALL OTHER INTERESTED PERSONS:

PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that the Watervliet City Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on Monday June 19, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Watervliet City Hall, 158 W. Pleasant St., Watervliet, Michigan.  The purpose of the public hearing is to hear comments and concerns regarding a proposed amendment to Chapter 6 – ANIMALS, Article I, Sec. 6-2 – LIVESTOCK, HORSES AND FOWL, of the City’s Code of Ordinances.

Below is a true and complete copy of the entire section with the proposed amendment:

AMENDMENT TO CITY OF WATERVLIET COMPILED ORDINANCES – CHAPTER 6,  ARTICLE I, Sec. 6-2  LIVESTOCK, HORSES AND FOWL.

Sec. 6-2. Livestock, horses and fowl.

It shall be unlawful to stable or keep, except temporarily during parade or festival periods, when the same will be ridden, driven or shown within the city, any horses, ponies, mules, donkeys, calves, cows, steers, bulls, pigs, shoats, sheep, goats, domesticated chicken roosters, geese, ducks, or any other domestic livestock or fowl.  In addition to the above, no more than 4 domesticated chicken hens may be kept on single family parcels or lots in the R-1 One Family Residence District within a hen house or restricted fenced in area and only in the required rear yard and not less than 15 feet from a side or rear yard lot line.  A restricted fenced in area shall comprise no more than 200 square feet or one-quarter of the total rear yard area, whichever is less.  Roosters and accumulations of fecal matter, in quantities sufficient enough to where odors of such are detectable from adjoining properties, are prohibited.

Written correspondence relating to the above matter may be mailed to the Watervliet Charter Township Hall, 4959 M-140 Highway, Watervliet, MI. 49098: faxed to (269)463-4808, or hand delivered to the attention of the Zoning Administrator.  All correspondence will be accepted up to and during the hearing and all correspondence will be read into the record.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that Watervliet City will provide necessary and reasonable auxiliary aids and services, such as signers for the hearing impaired and audio tapes of printed material being considered at the meeting upon six (6) business days notice by contacting the Office of Zoning Administrator at the above Township Hall address or by phoning (269) 463-5113.
