Watervliet Middle School May Students of the Month

Watervliet Middle School has announced their Students of the Month for May 2019. The sixth grade is proud to select Courtney Van Lente as the Sixth Grade Student of the Month. Courtney is the daughter of Kate and Jonathan Van Lent. She has two older siblings; Susanna is a junior and Drew is a freshman. She has a twin sister, Natalie and her little brother Connor is in third grade.

Courtney’s favorite subjects are math and band, where she plays the coronet. She also enjoys playing soccer and drawing. At home she likes to be outside in the hammock. Someday she hopes to be a FBI agent and catch bad guys. The sixth grade chose Courtney because she is courteous, cheerful, conscientious and a joy to have in class. The seventh grade is proud to announce Abby Lomoro as the May Student of the Month! Abby is the daughter of Kelli and Josh Lomoro. She has a younger sister, Hanna. Abby’s favorite subject is English Language Arts because Mrs. Henderson is one of her favorite teachers and the class is fun. Mrs. Henderson says, “I love having Abby in class! Her sincerity, kindness, and willingness to help others make her an awesome student!” Abby also likes Mr. Oetjens’ history class. She likes how Coach 0 teaches, and enjoys the projects he has them complete. Mr. Oetjens says, “Abby is the total student package. She always has a way to liven up our class, as well as help out when needed. Her laughter in class is infectious with her classmates, and just all around is a joy to have in class!” At school, Abby plays on the basketball and volleyball teams. She is also a member of the student council and honor clubs. Outside of school, Abby plays softball and is a member of 4-H where she shows pigs. She also enjoys photography and being outdoors. Abby’s friends say she is caring, funny, fun loving, always gives good advice, and sticks up for her friends. In the future, Abby wants to attend Oregon State to become a meteorologist with an engineering degree. She also wants to visit Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. The eighth grade is proud to select Kameron Bultema as Student of the Month for the month of May! Kameron is the son of Keith Bultema and Cindy Bultema as well as brother to three siblings: Isaac, Isabella, and Brian. In his free time Kameron enjoys playing the piano and the saxophone. He also loves to build things using a variety of materials from LEGOs to anything that he can find while he is out in the woods. Kameron enjoys parkour, camping and spending time with his friends! After high school Kameron wishes to pursue his love of designing and building by attending college to become a future architect. The eighth grade team agrees that Kameron is a hard worker, focused and engaged in class. Kameron is willing to help others in need and always goes above and beyond classroom and class work expectations.

Watervliet Middle School June Students of the Month

Watervliet Middle School has announced their Students of the Month for June 2019. The sixth grade is proud to announce Jocelyn Solis is the Sixth Grade Student of the Month. She is the daughter of Juan and Veronica Solis. Jocelyn has three older sisters Janette, Ivette and Jovana and one younger sister, Abby. She also has a dog, Milo.

Jocelyn’s favorite subject is math and she loves to read; her favorite book is the Doll House Mysteries. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite animal is a panda. At home Jocelyn likes to play on the trampoline, watch TV, play on her phone and draw. The sixth grade chose Jocelyn because she is kind, hardworking and a true pleasure to have in class. The seventh grade is proud to select Ella Harris as the June Student of the Month! Ella is the daughter of Angie and Chad Harris. She has a younger sister, Sienna. Ella enjoys all of her classes, but her favorite subject is choir because she gets to sing. Mrs. Brush is her favorite teacher because she is supportive, patient, and nice to all her students, and she encourages them to do their best. Mrs. Brush says, “Ella is a fantastic young person and student! She always gives her very best effort and is a strong leader in and out of the classroom. Ella was selected as a member of the MSVMA Invitational Choir, which is a very high honor. She also had a lead role (Scuttle) in the musical The Little Mermaid Jr., and participated in the Middle School Talent Show. On top of being such a strong musician, Ella is a very kind, thoughtful, and caring young person. It is truly a joy to be her teacher!” At school, Ella is a member of honor club, a student council representative, sings in choir, and is a cheerleader. Outside of school, she likes to read, write in a journal, and play video games. Ella plans to participate in this year’s Young Americans Summer Camp. Her friends say she is caring, kind, smart, and nice. After graduation Ella plans to attend LMC before attending the Young Americans College of the Performing Arts. She hopes to become an actress and to one day travel to France. The eighth grade is proud to announce Kendall Molter as Student of the Month for the month of June! Kendall is the daughter of Pete and Samantha Molter as well as sister to Dane Molter. Kendall’s favorite subjects in school are Math and Art. In her free time Kendall enjoys drawing. After high school she wishes to go to college to pursue a career in Law. The eighth grade team would like to acknowledge all of Kendall’s hard work that she has put into school this year. She is always focused, participates in class and exceeds their expectations! Congratulations to all Watervliet Middle School students of the month!

Saint Mary’s College names Dean’s List for spring 2019

Courtney Kroschel of Coloma has been named to the Saint Mary’s College Dean’s List for the spring 2019 semester. To earn this academic honor at Saint Mary’s, a student must achieve a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.6 on a 4.0 scale, have a minimum of 12 graded credit hours, no incompletes, and no grades lower than a C. Celebrating 175 years of empowering women to make a difference in the world, Saint Mary’s College is recognized as a pioneer in the education of women. A Catholic, liberal arts institution in Notre Dame, Indiana, the College offers more than 50 academic programs and also offers co-educational master’s degrees in data science, speech language pathology, autism studies, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
