Randall Park to be rededicated June 21
By Nancy Albright Thanks to the Coloma Downtown Development Authority and community residents, Randall Park received a facelift this spring. The DDA is serving up music, refreshments and a ribbon cutting on Friday, June 21 at 10:00 a.m. to celebrate the rededication of the park honoring long-time Coloma Mayor Glenn Randall in its 20th year. Dodging raindrops, volunteers have resurfaced walking paths; re-sealed wooden play structures, improved swing sets; and installed benches and a bike rack donated by Coloma High School Metalworks, rubber mulch, new pavilion seating, and a new drinking fountain. “There is still a to-do list and some tweaking and polishing to do, but we want to take this time to celebrate Randall Park and say thank you for the overwhelming support we have received, and continue to receive from volunteers, sponsors and the community,” said North Berrien Community Development’s Chana Kniebes. To date, the DDA has raised over $30,000 to fund the project––through the Leonard Fund, grants from the Berrien Community Foundation and Heart of Cook, and through the generosity of local individuals, businesses, churches and organizations. The DDA estimates the upgrades at $73,000. Anyone who would like to donate to the ongoing renovation can send cash or a check to City of Coloma-Randall Park Project, P.O. Box 329, Coloma, MI 49038, or call (269) 468-6606. Other business The city council, at their monthly meeting on Monday, June 10 approved hiring Jacob Hammond, Austin Rushing, Connor Bittner and Hunter Crist to help the Department of Public Works with summer maintenance projects, including yard waste collection which begins on Monday, June 16.
