Gast Manufacturing food drive challenge makes HOPE Resources in Coloma the real winner

Recently, employees of Gast Mfg. a Unit of IDEX Corporation located in Benton Harbor accepted a challenge against other IDEX owned business units to see which business unit could collect the most non-perishable food items per employee. Each business unit named a local food pantry to be the recipient of the items collected. The team at Gast chose HOPE Resources based in Coloma as their designated recipient of items collected. As is true fashion with the employees of Gast, their generosity came through! There were 6,072 non-perishable food items collected which averaged over 22 items per employee. Team Gast won the challenge! The real winner in this was HOPE Resources (as well as the other various food pantries which received goods from the other business units involved in the challenge).

AWIN WIN… Matt Whan, VP of Operations at Gast Mfg., presents Carole Sternaman, Director of HOPE Resources, with funds from food drive challenge win in the amount of $7,572 during an employee Town Hall Meeting at Gast Manufacturing.

HOPE Resources not only received the 6,072 items collected by the team at Gast, but also received $1,500 from Gast Mfg. as the “prize” for Gast being the “winning team”. Additionally, a request was made to the IDEX Foundation to match $1 for each item the Gast Team collected. The request was approved! Matt Whan, Gast’s VP of Operations, presented Carole Sternaman, Director of HOPE Resources, with checks totaling $7,572 during a Town Hall Meeting with employees of Gast. HOPE Resources is currently working on a capital fundraising campaign to secure a permanent location to serve the residents of North Berrien County to help reduce food insecurities. They currently operate out of space at the Coloma United Methodist Church.
