NOTICE OF ORDINANCE AMENDMENT
TO THE RESIDENTS AND PROPERTY OWNERS OF THE CHARTER TOWNSHIP OF WATERVLIET, BERRIEN COUNTY, MICHIGAN AND ALL OTHER INTERESTED PERSONS:
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that at a regular meeting of the Watervliet Charter Township Board held on July 17, 2017 the Board conducted the second reading and affirmatively voted to amend Zoning Ordinance No. 77, Article VI, Section 6.08 – KEEPING OF ANIMALS, LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY.
Below is a true and complete copy of the entire section as amended:
Sec. 6.08 KEEPING OF ANIMALS, LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY.
The keeping of customary household pets such as domestic cats, dogs, birds and fish shall be permitted, however, the keeping of other animals and livestock, for any purpose, is limited as a permitted principal use to the Agricultural District, in accordance with the regulations of that district, on parcels of two (2) acres or more. Such uses in the Agricultural District on less than two (2) acres and in the R1-A District shall be subject to the requirements of Section 5.09, “Uses Requiring Township Board Special Land Use Permits.” In addition to the above, no more than four (4) domesticated chicken hens may be kept on single family parcels or lots in the R1-A and R1-B Districts within a hen house or restricted fenced in area and only in the required rear yard and not less than fifteen (15) feet from a side or rear lot line. A restricted fenced in area shall comprise no more than 200 square feet or one-quarter (1/4) of the total rear yard area, whichever is less. Roosters and accumulations of fecal matter, in quantities sufficient enough to where odors of such are detectable from adjoining properties, are prohibited.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that this amendment will take effect 7 days after publication and that a copy of the complete Ordinance may be inspected or purchased at the Township Hall located at 4959 M-140 Highway, Watervliet, Michigan during regular business hours.
