Easy Street Inn offers a relaxing atmosphere and delicious food in Coloma
By Annette Christie Easy Street Inn, located at 275 N. Paw Paw Street, has been a staple in Coloma for over 20 years. It offers diners a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy delicious food and daily specials. Owner Karen Demis, a lifelong resident of Coloma, recalls how they obtained the building. After wanting to purchase the building next door, it was determined that the two buildings went together. After purchasing it, they gutted the building revealing the original tin ceiling and brick walls that welcome visitors today. The building that houses Easy Street Inn was erected for William Grant in 1896 to house his shoe store. It was destroyed by fire in 1912 and rebuilt in 1913. When it was rebuilt, a second floor was added to house the Ella Hamilton Photography Studio. It was in the 1920s that the building became the Guidice Brothers Restaurant on the first floor. Followed by that, it was known as Skelly’s Town Tavern, before becoming home to Easy Street Inn. While she had never been in the restaurant business for herself, Karen says she had been a waitress for years. She credits her staff and her husband for helping her build the business, with most of her staff that have been there from the beginning, still there. “We are one big family,” Karen says. Easy Street Inn opens daily at 11:00 a.m., with the exception of noon on Sunday. They offer daily specials for lunch and dinner in addition to a wide variety of foods on the menu. Diners have options of homemade soups and salads, with homemade dressings as well. They offer a wide variety of burgers, sandwiches, and baskets such as their famous chicken fingers. Their dinner options include ribs, steak, perch, shrimp, prime rib, and fish. Easy Street Inn has Mexican style options such as burritos, tacos, and fajitas as well as several pasta dishes.
