“Kute Kids”… THESE “KUTE KIDS”… ran to help raise money for childhood cancer research in honor of their “Cul”. Gabby, Maddie and Nathan are the children of Ashley and Danny Layne of Watervliet and are the grandchildren of Steve and Deedee Stakley and Tracy and Chris Jones. They are the great-grandchildren of Joan and Dick Stakley and Wilma Mabry. Share a photo of your “Kute Kids” with your friends, neighbors, and relatives who read the Tri-City Record. Make sure you write your kids’ names on the back of the picture and include any other information about it you would like to see in the paper, including mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, and so on. W-A-Y Watervliet High School September Students of the Month Hailey Wright September student of the month Hailey Wright

joined our program on September 4 as a true freshman, and has already earned four credits. She has been an incredibly hard worker, submitting projects daily. She has been doing all this through work in the lab, as well as working from home. One of her strong suits is self motivation, which will suit her well in her future! Hailey’s mom is Bridget Tunstill. In her free time, Hailey likes to go swimming and she enjoys hanging out with her friends. After she graduates high school, she wants to attend a beauty college to become a cosmetologist. Great job Hailey, keep up the hard work! Shane Captain The second September Student of the Month is Shane Captain. Shane has been in the W-A-Y program since January 2018 and has steadily been making progress. He is a senior and is very close to graduating. Shane comes to the lab at least twice a week and tries to submit something each time.

Shane’s parents are Duane and Debbie Captain. In his free time, Shane likes to go hunting or fishing. He loves to just be outdoors. He works at the McDonald’s in Hartford. In the future, Shane would like to be either a carpenter or a diesel mechanic. Shane’s work ethic indicates he will definitely be successful in whatever he chooses to do! Great job, Shane! Keep up the hard work as the finish line is very close.

To become a “Student of the Week”, students are nominated by teachers or staff for doing something positive. For example: Getting a good grade on tests or homework, doing well in class participation or just doing a good deed. Selected students will receive a certificate, their picture taken and posted in the High School front lobby showcase for the week and in the Tri-City Record. At the end of the school year, all Student of the Week names will be entered in a drawing for some cool prizes, treats or gift cards. Congratulations to these “Students of the Week” and keep up the great work!
