Watervliet library offers social work intern; Meet and Greet on Nov. 12

Social workers have become a frequently utilized resource in public libraries, and Watervliet is now a part of that movement. Social Workers in Small and Rural Libraries (SWiRLS) is a grant funded partnership between Niles District Library and six other regional libraries, which includes Watervliet. The program’s goals are to connect patrons with information about services available in their community and to develop collaborative relationships with local service agencies. Licensed social workers or social work interns from area universities will be available on a regular schedule or by appointment at each library to provide face to face assistance and referrals. To better inform the public of this service, the Watervliet District Library will hold a Meet-And-Greet event featuring WMU Social Work interns and their licensed program manager, Monday, November 12, from 1-3 p.m. Area residents are encouraged to stop by to share questions or concerns, or simply to say hello. Light refreshments will be served. Tracy Rudi, a graduate student enrolled in Western Michigan University’s School of Social Work, has been assigned regular hours in the library, Tuesdays from 1 to 4 p.m. People needing help are welcome to stop in during that time to speak with her. In addition, patrons are encouraged to fill out a “Book-a-Social Work Intern” request form any time the library is open, to arrange a meeting with Miss Rudi. For more information please contact the library at 269-463-6382 or info@wdlib.org, or visit the library’s Facebook page.
