FATHERLY ADVICE… Bryce W. Dunlop, 97, is a lifelong resident of Coloma. After serving in the Army during WWII, he finished college and moved to Coloma, where he worked at the State Bank of Coloma, which is now a branch of Chemical Bank. He retired in 1983 at the age of 62. His wife of 68 years and mother to their sons, Marjorie M. Dunlop, died in 2016. Their sons are all finally retired and had lunch on October 29 with him so that he could give them some advice on how to live their retirement years. Dave & Vicki Brinker  celebrate 50 years David Brinker and the former Vicki Smith were married November 9, 1968 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet. Father Don Weber officiated. The Brinkers reside in Watervliet. Their children are Greg (Michelle) of Portage MI, Neil (Elizabeth) of Denver CO, and Keith (Jami) of Mansfield OH. They have nine grandchildren. Vicki was a teacher’s assistant and office manager for North Berrien Adult Education for twenty years. She retired in 2005. David worked at LECO Corporation for twenty-one years as an engineering manager. He also worked at Hanson Mold for sixteen years as a sales engineer before retiring in 2012. He is currently the mayor of Watervliet.

Watervliet Hospital Auxiliary to host Tree of Love lighting ceremony Friday Lakeland Hospital, Watervliet Auxiliary will host the Annual Tree of Love Lighting Ceremony Friday, Nov. 16 at 12:00 noon in the Hospital Lobby. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided. Angels and ornaments are available for purchase at the hospital information desk and the gift shop.

12 Corners Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale on Saturday Twelve Corners Community Church is holding a Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale on Saturday, Nov. 17 starting at 9 a.m. Menu for breakfast includes pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits & gravy, fruit, jellies with beverages of coffee, orange juice and water. Proceeds from this event will go to their Building Fund. Twelve Corners Community Church is located at 3902 Hicks Avenue in Benton Harbor near the corner of Benton Center Road and Red Arrow Highway.

Comet’s Holiday Bazaar on Sunday The Coloma Athletic Boosters will hold their 5th Annual Comet’s Holiday Bazaar on Sunday, November 18, 2018. The hours of this event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Holiday Bazaar is in the Coloma Intermediate Gym located at 274 S. West St. in Coloma.

North Berrien Historical Museum to host program on raising reindeer, Tuesday, November 20

Since 2016, the North Berrien Historical Museum has featured live reindeer as one of the main attractions for its annual Holiday Open House event. In anticipation of the reindeer’s yuletide return in early December, one of the owners of Reindeer Ranch in Kalamazoo, Carol Borton, will visit the Museum to speak about her experiences in raising reindeer. This special presentation will take place on Tuesday, November 20 at 7:00 p.m. Carol has run Reindeer Ranch with her husband since 1999. In addition to educational information on the reindeer, this program will also detail the related places the Bortons have visited around the country and other organizations they have worked with over the past 20 years. The reindeer will not be in attendance on November 20 but will be appearing at the North Berrien Historical Museum on Sunday, December 2 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. For the entire Open House schedule, which runs November 30 – December 2, please visit northberrienhistory.org and click on the “Holiday Open House” tab. “Cook’s Nite Out” Thanksgiving  Dinner Friday at American Legion

The American Legion Coloma Post 362 is offering a “Cook’s Nite Out” Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday, November 16, 2018 from 5 to 8 p.m. The menu for the dinner is ham, sweet potatoes, and mashed potatoes with gravy, salad, carrots, deviled eggs, dessert and coffee. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $10 and at the door the evening of the dinner for $12. American Legion Post 362 is located at the corner of Red Arrow Highway and Sassafras Street in Coloma.
