12-10-2020″Honoring Healthcare Heroes” TV Special; Community Calendar; Kute Kids

HO HO HO GREETER… Coloma City wants to thank restaurant owner of The Hub, Tony Bertuca, for giving Baker Park some extra holiday spirit. Last week a 25-foot Santa was built on site and installed for the season at the park. There has been much speculation that this is the missing “Mall Santa” but it is a brand new beautiful Santa that makes a great photo op for kids and adults. The year 2020 continues to be a challenge but this has given a much needed Christmas boost to the downtown. (Photo courtesy of Chana Kniebes)

“Honoring Healthcare Heroes” special to air on December 12

In lieu of the annual Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation gala, community members are invited to tune in to a special televised program, “Honoring Healthcare Heroes,” which will air on WSBT-TV on Saturday, December 12, at 7:30 p.m. Viewers will hear inspirational stories and learn more about the many ways our local healthcare heroes are saving lives and improving health in Southwest Michigan.

Funds raised from the event will support two newly established programs at Spectrum Health Lakeland: the transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure which replaces a diseased aortic valve and is an alternative option for traditional open-heart surgery and the GROWTH (Guided Real-World Orientation and Work Training at the Hospital) program which emphasizes mentorship, professional competency and training, and healthcare career exploration for minority and low income students.

“While we will certainly miss gathering in person with our friends and neighbors, we are excited to offer this new opportunity this year for our community to join together from the comfort of their homes in support of our local healthcare heroes,” said Melinda Gruber, PhD, interim president, Spectrum Health Lakeland Foundation. “Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, we are able to offer unlimited access to anyone in the community who wishes to tune in which is something we’ve never been able to do before.”
