BETTY S. BISHOP

Betty Sue Bishop, 93, passed away peacefully at her home with the family at her side on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024. She was a lifelong resident of Riverside, Michigan where she was known as the neighbor on the corner with her door always open and the coffee was always on. You never left her house hungry. Betty always had a giving heart and wanted to make sure everyone was cared for.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1930 to Millard and Lennice Hutchison. Betty moved to the Tri-City Village Apartments in Watervliet a few years ago where she made many new friends. Her family was her greatest treasure and always enjoyed spending time with them. Betty worked for many years at VM Corporation of Benton Harbor, Moore’s Grocery of Riverside, and Golden Brown Bakery of St. Joseph. She loved gardening, sewing, and baking.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Townley, her second husband, Vern Bishop, her daughter, Mary Townley and her son, James Townley.

Survivors include four daughters, Brenda (Carl) McCuan of Benton Harbor, Dorothy (Greg) Bennett of Westly Chapel, FL, Gwen Ory of Riverside, and Sheila (Bill) LeBeau of Coloma; her 10 grandchildren; her 27 great-grandchildren; her three great-great-grandchildren; and all her great friends at the Tri-City Village Apartments.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Lakeshore-Hagar Cemetery on Eaman Road with Rev. David Haase officiating. Memorials may be made to the Coloma American Legion. Arrangements are by the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Please share words of caring or memories at www.florin.net.
