“Gifts of age and a birthday letter”

I’m not finished with the series on “Farming in the Shingle Diggin’s Area” but want to digress for a week or so and then return to it. This week I’m writing a letter to Ginny, my daughter-in-law, for her birthday. Her years seem young to me, definitely where “life begins,” but I suppose for her it’s one of those major mile markers along life’s superhighway and the slope ahead may look a little scary. Because readers may be passing some of those mile markers too, I invite you, as I have occasionally in the past, to listen in on a more-or-less personal letter:
