Donald (Don) Butler, 63, of Mattawan, MI passed away surrounded by his family on March 1, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born June 2, 1962 in Paw Paw, MI to Paul and Velma Butler.
Don is survived by his loving wife Jeannette (Tyler) Butler; children, Candice (Butler) Hamilton, Emily (George) Allen IV, Benjamin (Jessica) Butler, Rebecca (Billy) Briley; his sister Judy (Arnie) Redsicker, brother in-law Randy (Connie) Tyler and his former wife and friend Kathy (Butler) Smith. He is also survived by his many beloved grandchildren, Savannah and Maddy Hamilton, Riley Clay, George Allen V, Charli Allen, Gracelynn Allen, Garrett Allen (his birthday buddy) Olivia Butler, Omelia Butler and Hunter and Aleighsia Briley, along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Don was fiercely devoted to his family and spent most of his spare time with them. He never met a stranger, and spoke to everyone as a lifelong friend. Don loved working on cars and motorcycles for many years in his shop, before becoming a semi driver traveling all over the U.S. He was able to see every state, except for Hawaii and Alaska, and had many stories to share about each one. When he wasn’t on the road, you could easily find him swinging a golf club on a course somewhere with his friends or his son. He even got his wife learning how to play. He loved the Detroit Tigers and was a dedicated Fan of the Lions.
Don was preceded in passing by his parents, sisters Evelyn Berry and Pam Colter and nephews Jacob Kozul and Eric Phillips.
In accordance with Don’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be at the club house at West Point Hills in Mattawan on April 19, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
