Residents of the Hartford Public School District will be asked on Tuesday, August 2, 2016, to approve a renewal of the current 18 mill non-homestead operating millage. According to the school district’s web page, “This proposal will not impact the taxes on residential or agricultural property; only second homes, commercial and industrial properties are affected. This is only a renewal of the 18 mill levy approved by voters in 2010. While primary households are not affected by this millage, state law requires a district wide election to approve the millage. The non-homestead millage makes up approximately 6% of the Hartford Public Schools’ 13 million dollar budget. Renewal of the non-homestead millage is essential to maintaining the current programs offered by the district. If this funding is lost, the district cannot replace it with any other funding source. This is a (5-year)renewal of the current non-homestead millage, approved by voters in 2010.” For voting residents of the Hartford School Distinct, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are located at: Bangor Township Hall, 32550 C.R. 687; Hartford Township Hall, 61310 C.R. 687; Keeler Township Hall, 64121 Territorial Rd. West; Lawrence Twp Community Services Bldg (Fire Hall); and Hartford City Hall, 19 W. Main St.
