The Hartford Chamber of Commerce is set to host the Strawberry Festival this weekend, Friday through Sunday, June 10, 11 and 12.
Ely Park activities
The festival will take place in Ely Park primarily, utilizing the open spaces and the pavilion for the main events. The festival will have food vendors, local vendors, and rides in the lawn of Ely Park from noon to 9 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 12 to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Friday Kiddie Parade at 6 p.m.
The festival officially kicks off with the Kiddie Parade happening downtown. The parade will feature many local Hartford youth, competing for awards such as best decorated bike, best marching unit, and best strawberry theme. Then at the culmination of the parade, is the Strawberry Royalty crowning.
Strawberry Royalty
The float for the Strawberry Royalty will bring the contestants to the pavilion in Ely Park where the crowning will take place around 6:45 p.m. Friday evening. This year there are 13 Strawberry Royalty Contestants. The voting is by way of donation boxes set up at Hartford Harding’s and Hartford Dollar General. Voting closed on June 5th.
The Strawberry Royalty for 2022 will then go on to represent Hartford and the Strawberry Festival at other festivals and parades throughout their reigning year.
After the crowning, families are invited to enjoy the Magic Show presented by John Dudley, a local well-known magician, this being a long-standing arrangement and tradition. Or if there are some more inclined to enjoy motor sports, there will be races at Hartford Speedway starting at 7:30 p.m. Races have a ticket price of $20 for youth over 15 and adults, $15 for 11 to 15 year-olds and kids under 10 have free entry.
