Keeler Township moves November meeting date to Wednesday, November 5th

Keeler Township Supervisor Don Blackmond called the township’s monthly board meeting to order Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m. All members were in attendance.
An item under new business was the Fire Millage. The township board decided to continue to split the money between Sister Lakes Fire and Keeler Fire and Rescue, as they have done in previous years.
Keeler Township will hold trick or treating Friday, October 31 from 5 - 7 p.m.
County road report
Van Buren County Road Commissioner Rick Boze was present at the meeting to report on the road commission’s activities. He relayed that chip seal has been completed and gravel roads are now being prepared for winter. The road department is out trimming trees and the second phase of roadside mowing is being finished.

Sister Lakes Fire Department report for the month of August reflected a total of fourteen calls, none were in Keeler. There was an average response time of eight minutes and thirty seven seconds and an average of eight responders.
For the month of September there were a total of eleven calls, two of which were in Keeler. There was an average response time of nine minutes and seventeen seconds and an average of seven responders.
For the month of September Keeler Fire and Rescue reported a total of fourteen EMS calls with an average response time of ten minutes and an average of six responders. The department did a search and rescue training.
Van Buren Emergency Medical Services in the month of August responded to a total of ten Priority I calls with a response time of ten minutes and thirteen seconds, three Priority II calls with a response time of twelve minutes and forty seconds, and there were no Priority III calls.
Van Buren Sheriff’s Department Deputy John Horton reported seventy calls for the month of September. There were five alarms, four animal problems, two assault calls, one child abuse, two civil disputes, two domestic disputes, five EMS, two found property, one fraud, five general assists, one mental - non EMS, two PD accidents, five personal injury accidents, one property damage, one sex offense, one stalking, two suspicious, two theft, four threats, twenty-one traffic stops, one trespassing, one VIN inspection, and two welfare checks.
Financial report
Treasurer Sharon Clupper reported a beginning balance of $277,501, total deposits of $79,186.89, interest of $57.98, and total bills of $79,936.90. The ending balance was $276,808.95 in General Fund and $309,727.59 in Michigan Class.
Planning Commission
Trustee Carl Davis reported the Planning Commission had a meeting over the short term rental ordinance which has now been submitted to the board.
The Zoning Board of Appeals meets next on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2025 and the next Keeler Township Board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5 at 7 p.m. This is a day later than normal due to Tuesday, November 4 being an Election Day.
