Why attendance matters
To the Coloma Schools community:
As the quiet of winter break fades and the familiar hum of activity returns to our hallways, there is a renewed sense of purpose across Coloma Community Schools. The start of a new calendar year often prompts us to look at the big picture—our goals for student achievement, our commitment to safety and our vision for the future of our graduates. Yet, beneath these high-level objectives is a simple catalyst that determines the success of nearly every initiative we launch: attending school all day, every day.
The importance of attending school isn’t purely academic-driven, but socially and emotionally as well. As we move into the second half of the academic year, our goal is not merely to “fill seats,” but to ensure that every student has the opportunity to be part of the vibrant, challenging and rewarding experience that happens within our buildings.
When students come to school every day, we see their confidence grow as they learn to speak up, ask questions and provide answers during classroom discussion. They learn how to manage their time better by moving from classroom activities to afterschool and extracurricular opportunities like sports and clubs. And they have the opportunity to build relationship and communication skills by forming lifelong friendships and rapport with teachers.
As we look toward the spring, let’s make a collective commitment to prioritize attendance. Let’s ensure our students have the best possible chance to grow, learn and succeed.

Hello!
Thank you so much for your kindness. I’ve already started keeping my eye out for pictures of my court and I in the paper! Without your gift I wouldn’t have much to remind myself of this opportunity in the future.
Sincerely,
Miss Coloma 2026,
Cassidy Emrath
