Coloma Public Library News


The Coloma Public Library has updated and expanded service hours to the following: Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Friday & Saturday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Current program schedules are located on the home page of the library’s website. NEW Teen Study Group


Need help with homework or a quiet place to focus? Go to the library from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays for their Study Group! Grades 6-12 welcome.


Paws for Reading


Certified therapy dogs, Margaret and Pailey are in the Children’s Department for weekly reading sessions on Thursdays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. This program is intended for school-aged children, kindergarten and older. Each individual literacy session will be 15 minutes. Contact the library to preregister your child. Masks are required for the safety of children and the dogs with exceptions for children medically unable to wear masks.


Book Club

The Coloma Public Library Book Club meets every other Thursday in the Community Room at 4 p.m. The public is welcome to participate. The next book club discussion is Thursday, Feb. 3. Contact the library for the reading list.

Toddler/PreK Story Times

Interactive story times with music, movement, and a craft are at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesdays.

Grab n’Go Craft Kits

Kits will be in the Lobby on the Curbside Cart on Thursdays starting at 10 a.m. Children can make a craft in the Children’s Department or take it to do at home. For preschool to school-aged children while supplies last.


Watervliet District Library news


The wintertime Adult Reading Program continues through Feb. 19. A prize drawing ticket is earned for every two books read. This year’s grand prizes: $100 Harding’s Gift Card and a six month subscription to the Book-of-the-Month Club. This year’s theme highlights the winter Olympics by offering weekly games, trivia and prize drawings. The trivia challenges are posted online and in the library on Mondays. All correct answers will be entered in the drawing. Answers can be submitted to info@wdlib.org, phoned in or submitted in person. Winners will be announced the following Monday.

Library of Things


The Library of Things collection includes robotics kits, puzzles, circuitry games, Lego sets and more. Most kits can be checked out for two weeks. The collection offers many perfect wintertime activities for families, individuals and kids of all ages.


Youth photo contest


The January teen/pre-teen contest for the month will be a “Pets Caught Reading” photo contest. Photos can be submitted to info@wdlib.org through Jan. 25. Judging will take place on the library’s Facebook page, starting Jan. 26. The winner will receive a $5 gift card to a favorite fast-food franchise.


Regular library hours are: Monday, 10-7; Tuesday, 10-6; Wednesday, 10-7; Thursday, 10-6; Friday, 10-5; Saturday, 9-3. Patrons can contact the library by phone (269-463-6382), email, and through Facebook messenger.



Scholarship applications now being accepted in field of education


The Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel - Berrien County Chapter has $1,500 Dorothy Hawks Scholarships available for the Fall semester of 2022.

These scholarships are available to students who will be a sophomore, junior or senior enrolled in the field of education and/or will be student teaching during the upcoming school year. The student must be a graduate of a Berrien County high school and attending a Michigan college or university. The candidate must have a “B” or better average.

The application is available at MARSP-BCC.ORG. Applications must be returned by April 8, 2022. The awarding of the scholarship will be made during the week of June 14, 2022.
