NBCD/CWACC raises $3,500 from annual golf outing; Coloma Lions Club Great Pumpkin Derby Race

SEA CADETS, LAKE MICHIGAN DIVISION WERE AT THE WATERVLIET AIRPORT… this past Saturday, October 8. The Lake Michigan Division drills in Paw Paw.They continued their aviation adventure which was started at Newmans Field on August 27 with instruction about the exterior/interior to include the instrument panel of a small airplane. This was followed up by looking at an aeronautical map; then came the fun part, a plane ride to the shores of Lake Michigan. Next Sunday, October 16 the Cadets will be at the annual Chili Hop Fly-in at the Watervliet Municipal Airport. Come visit the Sea Cadets, you may decide to join them on their many adventures.


NBCD/CWACC raises $3,500 from annual golf outing

 The North Berrien Community Development (NBCD) and the Coloma Watervliet Area Chamber of Commerce (CWACC) held their 13th Annual Community Golf Outing on September 23, 2016 at the Paw Paw Lake Golf Club.  The weather was rainy for part of the day for the 44 golfers representing local businesses, but the participants still enjoyed a day of golf, raffle prizes, continental breakfast and lunch at the course.  Cash prizes were awarded to the top three teams and they were: 1st place, CIA Combined Insurance Agency; 2nd place, Boelcke Heating and Air Conditioning; and 3rd place, Wightman and Associates. Kate Owen won a prize for closest to the pin.  The major corporate sponsor again for this year’s event was Lakeland HealthCare. CIA (Combined Insurance Agency) sponsored the $10,000 Hole in One Contest.  Individuals who gave of their time to help at the outing were, NBCD Chair Jim Polashak and Sherry Polashak, Chamber President Karla Smothers from Chemical Bank, Coloma City Commissioner Marsha Hammond and Robin Kniebes of Grapevine Nursery.  The following Hole Sponsors helped to make this event successful: Able Electric, AEP Indiana & Michigan Power, Bestway Disposal, Bob Becker Alfred Metals, Boelcke Heating and Air Conditioning, Centsible Heating and Air Conditioning, Chemical Bank, CIA, Edgewater Bank, Grandpa’s Orchard, LADD Inc, LaGrow Consulting, Lakeland HealthCare, Midwest Civil Engineers, Midwest Family Broadcasting, Orchard Hill Landfill, Sharon Yoder State Farm Insurance, Sheriff Paul Bailey and Todd Korabik State Farm Insurance.  Also the following local businesses donated prizes: Able Electric, Boelcke Heating and Air Conditioning, Centsible Heating and Air Conditioning, Chemical Bank, DiMaggio’s Pizza, Edward Jones Investments, Grapevine Nursery, Handmade Treasures, Honor Credit Union, Lazy Ballerina Winery, NBCD and Wightman and Associates.  Everyone’s participation and dedication to help raise funds for community development and chamber projects is greatly appreciated.  Plan to join in 2017 for the 14th Annual Community Golf Outing.

Coloma Lions Club Great Pumpkin Derby Race

 The Coloma Lions Club is sponsoring a pumpkin derby race on Saturday, October 29 to be held in conjunction with Coloma’s Halloween in the Park in downtown Coloma.  Weigh-in begins at 11 a.m. with the racing to start at noon in front of Coloma City Hall.  The race kits which consist of four wheels and an all-thread rod to make two axels plus washers and nuts are available for $15. The kit is used with a medium sized pumpkin to create a pumpkin racer.  There is a registration fee of $10 for the Stock Class, using a purchased kit. The Open Class registration fee is $15 for a racer made with builder’s own wheels and axels.  All entrants must follow the guidelines in the rules which can be found online along with the registration and kit purchasing information at colomalions.com or on the Facebook page for Coloma Lions Club.
