Not click bait

Many click baits appearing in my email inbox will have a few things in common with every other invitation to buy something. It will appeal to fear or to some perceived inadequacy. There is always something new to fear, and there are sufficient inadequate-feeling people that enough of them can be motivated to spend money in order to fix whatever the issue.

There will also be a short video which will be taken down “at any time” because “they” (whoever that is) “don’t want you to know this!” You know the routine. Then, 30 minutes later you’re still watching this “short video” until they finally reveal their plan, which is “send us the money.” It’s marketing, and we’ve learned to expect it. It must work, otherwise content creators wouldn’t continue spending their not-so-hard-earned money plastering the internet with their super secret solutions.

We can be happy that we can find truth and integrity elsewhere. But we have to look in right places. Primarily we have to search for freedom from crushing fear in the Bible. And personal issues can find pathways to victory beginning with a satisfying and healed relationship with God.

God does not use click bait. He offers hope, peace, and joy through the power of His Holy Spirit met with our faith. (Romans 15:13) Nothing is super secret. And while God’s offer won’t be “taken down,” there should be real concern that the opportunity to respond will come to an end when a person’s Earthly life ends. “And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27, KJV)

But, more good news. The healed relationship that also conquers fear is free and forever, paid for by the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary for each of us!

Life will still have problems, but you’ll never again have to walk your path alone.
