Press Box Player of the Week: Brielle Hicks

Brielle Hicks, a senior at Coloma High School, and a member of the Coloma Lady Comet bowling team this winter, is the Jan. 4, 2024 Tri-City Record Press Box Player of the Week. Brielle was nominated by her athletic director, Wendy Goodline.

A.D. Goodline felt Hicks was deserving of this honor, because she has excelled athletically in multiple sports over her high school career but is also turning into a valuable leader for her younger teammates. Brielle has not participated in high school bowling prior to this season. While bowling may consist of rolling the ball down a 60-foot long, 42-inch wide lane, trying to knock down ten pins, the eventual outcome of a bowling match is an individual and team effort. If the Lady Comets wish to reach their goals this season, they will need quality student-athletes who exude teamwork – that’s where Brielle fits in perfectly.

In addition to bowling, Brielle also competed on the volleyball court in the fall and participates in softball in the spring; she has been a varsity athlete in these two sports for the entirety of her high school journey. In volleyball, she was a team captain that played hard on both the front and back rows, which her statistics show. In softball, the former honorable mention all-conference recipient (from ’22) will be looking to be one of the team’s top performers, as the Lady Comets are returning much of their roster from a district championship winning team from last spring.

In the classroom, Brielle takes the role of being a student-athlete seriously, and she has the list of qualities to show for it. She carries solid grades and was named a “Student of the Month” at CHS in October. She is the current student representative for the Coloma Community Schools Board of Education, a member of the yearbook club and served on the Homecoming committee. In addition, she will also be active in the community as the current runner-up to Miss Coloma.

After high school, Brielle plans to attend the University of Michigan to study nursing; she has made it her goal to become a neonatal nurse.

Congratulations Brielle on your academic and athletic achievements and best of luck during the rest of your senior year!
