Productive week for Southwest Michigan in Lansing

It was a productive week in Lansing, with several important wins for Southwest Michigan. We made meaningful progress on three key priorities that will strengthen our economy, secure our energy future, and ensure that a child’s right to an education is never compromised by their medical needs.

On Wednesday, the House passed my bill, House Bill 4422, a targeted reform that modernizes an outdated portion of Michigan’s Liquor Control Code. By updating the fee structure for Authorized Distribution Agents, we’re streamlining a process that supports small businesses, creates jobs, and keeps Michigan’s economy competitive.

Another major focus this week was our children. The House Education Committee heard testimony on House Bill 5044, my legislation to ensure that students who need specialized medical treatments—such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy—can receive that care at school without missing class. It’s a commonsense measure that ensures families don’t have to choose between their child’s health and education. I was honored to be joined by advocates from the LOGAN Center and the Autism Alliance of Michigan, whose powerful stories underscored how important it is to get this done.
