Reminiscing with Pearl Playford

Let’s forget the snow and cold that has stayed with us the past three months and look forward to spring, which is due just three weeks from today, officially, that is. And this reminds me of a little item in one of the old Records that says:

“The women of Bloomingdale are going to put the ‘bloom’ into their town this summer, according to a decision made at a recent community day meeting of the Women’s Club of that village. The ladies decided to attend primaries in a group and take a more active interest in everything pertaining to the village. They made plans to improve the appearance of the town during the growing season by giving more attention and care to their premises and assisting with public property wherever possible. They voted to use the petunia as a special flower in the plan to ‘Put the Bloom into Bloomingdale.’”

Bloomingdale chose the same flower in the plan that the Watervliet Civic Garden Club designated for Watervliet many years ago, but the plan was never carried out to any extent.
