Robert “Bob” Lewis Meachum, 84, of Dowagiac, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024, at Hanson Hospice in Stevensville, MI.
Bob was born on Aug. 14, 1939, in Saginaw, MI to parents Jake Meachum and Frieda (Gilmore) Meachum. He grew up in Millington, MI and attended (with pride) Michigan State University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in vocational agriculture education and met Patsy Marleen Barner.
Bob and Patsy married on Aug. 1, 1964. They raised their boys in Dowagiac where Bob worked with a large number of people in various aspects from farming to teaching to being the “old man” who helped out those in need in the seasonal department at Lowe’s in Benton Harbor.
In his retired years, Bob enjoyed tending to his gardens and greenhouses, including his annual crop of pumpkins sold during Halloween and rooting for all things Sparty.
Bob is survived by Patsy as well as his sister Patricia Howell of East Lansing, oldest son Jake Lewis of Sister Lakes with wife Drenda, and youngest son John Edgar of Oak Park (IL) with wife Maria. Bob also loved spending time with his grandkids Abigail Rose and Ian Robert.
A Memorial Service will be held 12 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at First United Methodist Church, 326 N. Lowe St., Dowagiac, where friends may visit with the family from 11 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at church.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, Bob asked that donations be made to the First United Methodist Church in Dowagiac in his and Patsy’s name.
Arrangements were entrusted to Clark Chapel and Cremation Services, Dowagiac. Please visit Bob’s personalized webpage to share a memory or leave a condolence to his family at www.clarkch.com.
