Sawmill class is model for real-life learning at Grace Christian School in Watervliet

Ben Williamson, interim secondary science teacher at Grace Christian School, recently initiated a novel class and offered it to all K4-12th graders. He transported his Norwood HD36V2 portable bandsaw mill, and set it up by the school’s parking lot. It was “an experiential activity, where we see what looks like junk – a pile of old logs – turn into something valuable: new boards,” Williamson said. “We take what looks difficult to use, a tree, and see how it is altered into something useful, a board.”
