Hartford Class of 1956 60th Reunion

 The Hartford Class of 1956 had 45 graduates and of those graduates 15 attended a reunion on July 20, 2016 at Mill Creek Charlies Restaurant. Those attending were Peter Harvey Nation from Peoria, Illinois; Malcolm Harry Broadhurst and Donna Rae Knapp Broadhurst from Carol Stream, Illinois; Richard Charles Walker from South Bend, Indiana; Donald George Kiefer from Sherboygan, Wisconsin; Erma Louise Rowley White from Watervliet; Lynne Adrienne Wehlau Cobianco from South Haven; Elizabeth (Betty) Joan Miller Huddleston from St. Joseph, and Stephen Gregory Shafer, Josephine Carol VanLiere Perry, Rodney L. Lynch, Marion Elizabeth Prouty Jensen, Dale Noble Childs, Robert Latus and Nancy Dyer Huffman all from Hartford.  Also attending as spouses or guests were Patricia Nation, Amy Munjoy, Bill and Margaret Briggs, Virginia Shafer, Bette Latus, Dean Huddleston, Rodney Lynch III and Arlene Kiefer.  The 1956 Class Sponsor for several years was Roger Hallgren and our Green and White Annual advisor was Mrs. Claire Olds. Superintendent was Howard C. Walter and Principal was Arvon M. Collins.  Class officers were Tom MacKenzie as President, Roger Smith as Vice President, Marion Prouty as Treasurer, Bob Latus as Student Council Representative and Nancy Dyer as Secretary.   Our Class Motto was “The top is our goal, no matter how high”.  The Co-Valedictorians were Malcolm Broadhurst and Eugene Kirsch.  Those that did not attend for unknown reasons were Mona Lee Ulrath Burt, Joan Wax Umphrey, Joan Marie Ilg Lowe, James Leroy Cobianco, Margaret Elaine Macleod Goodwin, Clayton Francis Shafer, Gail Frances Hammond Allen, Donald Edwin Cochran, Donna Fay Straw Flagel and Pearl Virginia Phillips Lewandowski.  Those from the class that are deceased are Clifford Brown, Emilia Bundesman Cunningham, Leonard Cheshire, Stanley Dowd, Carol Freeman, Charles Gifford, Rosalie Hazelett, Patti Hester, Loretta Hickman, Ruth Keillor Keech, Eugene Kirsch, Thomas MacKenzie, Horace Martin, Leland Miller, John Obermesik, Ann Penwell Martin, Janis Rapa, Roger Smith, Florence Teal Saline and Maxine Wallace Jones.  Many memories were discussed during this reunion and the ones that were not in attendance were certainly missed.

Lodge, 3470 Angling Rd., Coloma. Tickets $5.00 at the door. Food available for purchase.  Monday, August 29, “RETIREMENT PARTY FOR LOIS HARTMAN”, Watervliet Library Director, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room. Saturday, Sept. 24, “WIRX BIKE BASH” at LMC’s Mendel Center from 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. More info at wirx.com  Sundays, 8 a.m. to noon “BREAKFAST” at the Coloma Rod & Gun Club.  Wednesdays, 5 p.m.-6 p.m., “GRIEF SHARE SUPPORT GROUP” meets at Watervliet Free Methodist Church, 7734 Paw Paw Ave., Watervliet. Learn how to walk the journey of grief and be supported on the way.
