Senator Aric Nesbitt welcomes U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran James “Doc” McCloughan to state Capitol special guest for the Senate’s annual Memorial Day Service

SPECIAL VETERAN… Senator Aric Nesbitt welcomed U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran James “Doc” McCloughan to the state Capitol as his special guest for the Senate’s annual Memorial Day Service held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, honoring Michigan’s fallen service members.

McCloughan, from Bangor, Michigan, was presented with the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Donald Trump on July 31, 2017, in recognition of his heroic actions rescuing fellow soldiers during several combat engagements from May 13-15, 1969, despite his own wounds and the risk to his life. On Oct. 24, 2025, McCloughan was inducted into the Michigan Military and Veterans Hall of Honor.
