The House is moving forward

On October 25th, House Republicans unanimously supported Representative Mike Johnson as Speaker of the House. I look forward to working with Speaker Johnson on advancing legislative priorities for Southwest Michigan.

Under Speaker Johnson’s leadership, the House immediately passed a resolution declaring solidarity with our greatest ally, Israel, and a strong condemnation of the barbaric acts of terror committed by Hamas. I cosponsored this resolution and voted in favor of it when it passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. The very next week, we passed $14.3B in aid for Israel in a bipartisan manner while offsetting the cost by cutting the Biden Administration’s army of new IRS agents.

As Chairman of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I have been holding the Iranian Government accountable for their support of terrorists by re-introducing the No U.S. Financing for Iran Act to cut off the Iranian Government from the U.S. Financial System. Additionally, I joined Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry and Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer in sending a letter to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, demanding information on the Biden Administration’s actions allowing the Iranian Government to access billions in restricted funds. In order to successfully stand with Israel, we must work to limit Iran’s negative influence across the region.

Here at home, the House continues to work on the appropriations process. So far, seven (and counting!) of twelve appropriations bills have passed the House, while the Senate has only passed three. Within the bills passed, I’ve secured key wins for Southwest Michigan, including securing funding for the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative and blocking the Biden Administration’s fee on farms and small businesses.

As your voice in Congress, I will continue to find ways to support Israel, protect taxpayer dollars, and work to deliver results for the people of Michigan’s 4th Congressional District.
