Ensign Johnny Spaulding

Just 37 years ago this last January 25th, on a cold brilliant morning, Ensign Johnny Spaulding took off from the naval air station at Virginia Beach, Virginia. That morning he and his two wing men inspected their Navy fighter planes. Johnny was planning his 25th birthday party for a week and a half later, and the other two pilots teased him about being over the hill at 25.
