Watervliet Charter Township Board Supervisor Stepich updates on Broadband status; Hungerford Nichol

The Watervliet Township Board met on Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 at the Watervliet Township Hall. With a light agenda, the meeting business was accomplished in a short amount of time.

Broadband update

Township Supervisor, Joe Stepich gave an update on the Broadband status, saying that the Broadband Internet Task Force has recommended Berrien County use the money currently available from ARPA funds for deployment of broadband service to underserved areas, to retain the services of technical experts to create and implement a pre-engineered Broadband Master Plan. They also recommend procuring additional state and federal grants to cover the cost differential to implement the Master Plan. This is not finalized and more details are to come.

Audit Proposal

The township board has approved to keep Hungerford Nicols as the township’s audit organization. Hungerford is a Michigan based firm with origins dating back to 1941. They serve a variety of municipal, school district, non-profit, commercial, industrial, and individual clients. Their objective is to provide quality accounting, auditing, income tax preparation, computer consulting, and management advisory services to those they serve.

2023 Landfill Passes

Like previous years, the Watervliet Charter Township will be providing landfill passes for township residents who are in need of those services. The pass availability will be announced at a later date.

The next regular meeting for Watervliet Township will be Feb. 20, 2023 at 7 p.m.
