Why work?
The same way fear freezes, makes incapable of acting, creates confusion and causes despair, unemployment freezes, makes incapable of acting, creates confusion and causes despair. We may be able to “work the system” with voluntary unemployment, but the insidious results will be self-defeating and not as profitable as promised. The dollars may be there, but the character is eroding. I’m obviously speaking of the situation where workers are not available because unemployment benefits outperform a regular wage, with the result that it is more profitable to be unemployed than to work. I am not speaking of those that legitimately cannot work.
