Police Reports By Annette Christie Watervliet woman injured in single car accident A 29-year-old Watervliet female was injured in a single vehicle personal injury crash on January 6 in Van Buren County. Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on January 6, 2019 at approximately 2:16 a.m., deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 27000 block of 60th Avenue for a report of an injured woman knocking on a door. Upon arrival, deputies determined that the subject had been in a severe crash and her vehicle was located a short distance away with significant damage. The vehicle had crashed into a wooded area, striking several trees. The vehicle was completely disabled with airbag deployments. The driver was able to walk to a neighboring house, where police and an ambulance were called to assist. The driver was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The crash remains under investigation.
Pedestrian struck and killed on I-94 is Coloma man On January 7, 2019 at approximately 6:15 p.m., first responders were dispatched to eastbound I-94 at mile marker 34, in Benton Township, for a reported vehicle hitting a person on the freeway. Upon arrival, responders made contact with the 38-year-old female driver from Delton, Michigan, whom believed she hit a man crossing I-94. Responders were able to locate the 33-year-old male who was struck by the vehicle. The identity of the man from Coloma was withheld pending notification of the family. The pedestrian was pronounced dead while on scene. Initial investigations appear as though the male was crossing I-94 and was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound. Investigation at the scene suggests drugs and/or alcohol was not a contributing factor for the driver. Investigation is ongoing as to why the victim was on the roadway and his condition at the time of incident. Assisting agencies include the Michigan State Police-Niles Post, Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Benton Township Police Department, Benton Township Fire Department, and Medic 1 Ambulance. While officially the man’s name was not released, individuals on social media identified him as Andre Machado.
Guns stolen from Hartford home Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott reports that on January 7, 2019, deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 63000 block of 54th Avenue in Hartford for a reported break-in with several firearms missing. A shotgun, muzzleloader and a 9MM handgun were reported stolen in the break in. The break-in occurred sometime during the daytime hours on January 7, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Anyone with any information is asked to please contact the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department (269) 657-2006 or Silent Observer.
Watervliet Police asking for help to find Watervliet girl The Watervliet Police Department took to social media in an attempt to reach the public for help in finding a missing Watervliet teen. Their post on January 7, 2019 stated as follows: “If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Jaci Duncan (14), please call or message Watervliet Police Department. She has been missing since 01/02/2019 at approximately 2200hrs. We believe she left voluntarily and is known to run away from home. It’s believed she may be with a Casey Carter (31) who resides in Dowagiac. We’ve made contact with several agencies to keep an eye out for the both of them.
