EDDIE EUGENE HOLLAND JR.

 Eddie Eugene Holland Jr. from Hartford passed away suddenly on February 3, 2017.

Eddie was 28 years old and will be missed immensely. Some of his talents include painting airplanes and mechanical work on cars. He was active in high school basketball.

The family would like to thank the Arnt and Mizwicki families for putting into place the Good Samaritan law.

Survivors include his mother, Karen Hoffman Koch; father, Eddie E. Holland; and two brothers, Jeffrey Holland and Michael (Stefany Foster) Holland. He will be missed by many aunts, uncles, cousins and family members.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at New Freedom Church, 6210 Mountain Road, Coloma, with a luncheon to follow.

JANICE A. JOHNSON

 Janice A. Johnson, 78, of Coloma Township, died Friday afternoon, Feb. 3, 2017 at her home.

You are invited to meet with Janice’s family from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Davidson Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Coloma. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be made to Janice’s family. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net.

Janice was born on March 26, 1938 in Chicago to James and Helen Kubra. She married George Johnson on Dec. 7, 1964 in Chicago. He preceded her in death in 2005, and they celebrated over 40 years of marriage.  Janice retired as an inspector at Michigan Fruit Canners after 15 years of employment.  She was a member of the First General Baptist Church. Janice enjoyed her garden and her flowers, and loved to cook and bake for family. She was a wonderful, caring wife, mother and grandmother.

Janice’s family includes her children, George (Audrey Smith) Johnson of Coloma, Kathleen (Paul) De Fries of Chicago, Il, and Joseph (Lisa Park) Lawson of Coloma; her sister, Rosie Stafford of Henley, IL; her 7 grandchildren; her 2 great-grandchildren; and her special friend, Ronda Fellows.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Charles J. Lawson.

MARY R. VANDERVORT

 Mary R. Vandervort, 80, of Coloma passed away Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at River Ridge Retirement Village in South Haven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Watervliet of which she was a member. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma beginning at 5:00 p.m. and concluding at 7:30 p.m. with the Rosary. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be given to the North Berrien Senior Center. Those wishing to leave an online message of remembrance may do so at www.duffieldpastrick.com.

Mary was born December 3, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Herman and Florence (Lewis) Vollrath. She grew up in Coloma, lived in Texas from 1981 to 1992, before returning to her home in Coloma. Mary was a registered nurse, dedicating countless hours of service to Dr. Stagg in Watervliet, Dr. Franklin in Lewisville, Texas along with Lewisville Texas Hospital.

Survivors include her children; Lisa A. Lewis of Missouri, Michael J. Vandervort of Raleigh, NC, Mary Colleen Vandervort of Bloomington, IN, Bruce Vandervort of Bloomington, IL, and Victor M. Vandervort of Bellingham, Washington. Survivors also include a brother William “Bill” Vollrath of Cassopolis; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband Victor in 2012; a son Tom in 1977; a brother, George Vollrath and sister, Margie Hyman.
