Gary’s life began on Aug. 5, 1950, in Watervliet, Michigan. A lifelong resident of the community, he was a graduate of Watervliet High School. Gary had a deep love for his community, which he demonstrated through 13 years of service with the Watervliet Ambulance and 32 years as a member of the Watervliet Fire Department. He retired from the fire department in September 2004.

When he wasn’t serving his community, Gary was dedicated to providing for his family. He spent 30 years working at Kwood Shutters before continuing his career at IBID County Electric, where he worked until retirement. Gary had a passion for classic cars, especially his 1957 Chevy Bel Air, which he proudly displayed at car shows whenever he could. He also enjoyed building model cars and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Above all, Gary cherished his family. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Christine (Kolenko) Tingue; his son, Curt Tingue; three grandchildren, Alexis Tingue, Mercedes Tingue, and James Schutz; and three great-grandchildren, Mila, Brennan, and Mariana.

Gary passed away on Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Corewell Health in St. Joseph. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Crystal Schutz, and his parents, John and Marian (Rouse) Tingue.

Friends may visit with Gary’s family on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at Hutchins Funeral Home in Watervliet. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with burial at Watervliet Cemetery.
