NOEL F. KNUTSON Noel F. Knutson, age 83, of Rockford, IL, formerly of Coloma passed away February 20 in his home surrounded by family. Born and raised on Lakewood Point on Paw Paw Lake, he was the son of Thure V. and Edna (Anderson) Knutson. He graduated Coloma High School in 1954 and attended MSU; super fan of the Spartans!!

He married Mary Olson on March 19, 1977 in Palos Heights, IL. Served in the State of Michigan National Guard, was manager of American National Bank in South Bend, president of Mid West Can Machinery Corp. and K-Can Machinery before retirement. In the late 1970s, he and Mary hosted many high school and family reunions on the Point and a grand time was had by all! He was a devoted husband and son, loving brother, wonderful grandfather and great friend; he truly loved his wife and family. Uncle Noel was a favorite of his nieces and nephews, and there are countless stories about the many wonderful adventures shared in their younger years. He was an avid gardener and could fix anything! outdoorsman, loved his boats, fishing in Paw Paw Lake and Lake Michigan. He was a real lover of life, creative, outstanding woodworker, craftsman and how he loved his cats! A party-giver extraordinaire! He will indeed be missed. Survivors include wife, Mary; children James (Kim) Olson and Susan (Harlan) Knuth; grandchildren, Brian (Hannah), Cassidy, Emily, Dayton, Janey, Sierra and Riley; great-grandchild, Easton; sister, Gloria DeCook. Predeceased by parents and siblings, Dolores Krieger and Gordon Knutson. Visitation 10 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2020 at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Drive, Rockford, IL 61109 with Mass to follow at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family. DONNIS “DON” STEWART Donnis “Don” Stewart, 69, of Coloma went to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27 at Duffield and Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Feb. 28 at Midway Baptist Church in Watervliet. Entombment will follow at North Shore Memory Gardens. Memorial donations in Don’s memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Those wishing to leave a message or share a memory with the family online may do so at Don was born June 20, 1950 in Plant City, Florida to L.V. and Linnie (Meeks) Stewart. He graduated from Bridgman High School in 1968. Don served in the United States Army including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He continued in the Army Reserves after his three year term. He graduated from Lake Michigan College. He worked for UPS and was an assistant manager at Rex Auto Parts. Don enjoyed reading, genealogy, and computers. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was never too busy to babysit and spent countless hours with them. Don is survived by his wife Susan whom he married June 22, 1974; his daughter Katrina (Jarrod) Hankins of Coloma; a sister Terri (Rod) Neeley; brothers and sisters-in law Rex “RJ” (Debbie) Watkins and Bonnie (Jeff) Joseph and three grandchildren Madison, Ethan, and Olivia. Also surviving are his nieces and nephews Michele, Allen, Christina, Grant and Hudson; great-niece and great-nephew Taylar and Ian. Don was preceded in death by his parents and his mother and father-in-law.

MIKE DOWNEY Mike Downey was born on Sept. 22, 1949, in Black Oak, Arkansas to Woodrow and Dovie Downey. He left this world on Feb. 18, 2020 at Spectrum Health Lakeland, St Joseph, Michigan.

Mike was married to Florence (Sue) Brinsfield on Oct. 25, 1969. Two weeks after their wedding, Mike left to serve his country in Vietnam. He was a proud veteran of the 101st Airborne. Mike and Sue are parents to Kristen (Scott) Dixon, Holly (Brandon) Wolfe and April (Mike) Brown. Being a “girl dad” was something he loved. He taught them how to fish, hunt and coached their softball teams. As much as he loved being a dad his favorite things to be called were: Grandpa, Papa or Gramps. He leaves his legacy of love and sense of humor to his grandkids: Phillip, Dixon, Amanda (David) Paine, Delaney, Darcy, Tori, Taylor, Skyler, Garrett and Melody, also, his great-granddaughters, Aubree Dixon and Lennox Paine. He is survived by his wife, daughters, grandchildren and his siblings: Wayne (Sandy) Downey, Larry (Dovie) Downey, Guy (Judy) Downey, Cis (Dewey) Hiler, Stanley (Diane) Downey, Theresa Stark, Kimberly Copeman, and Keith Downey. He also leaves to cherish his memory his best buddy, Chuck (Lynn) Cartwright and their daughters, Teri, Kerry and Jodie, his Brazilian son Danilo Takaesu and numerous nieces and nephews. He’s preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Roy and Marion Brinsfield; brothers-in-law: Dale, Kenny and Bobby Brinsfield, Melvin Anders and Brian Stark; sisters-in-law: Lois Anders and O’Nieta Brinsfield. Mike was a fun, roll with it kind of guy. He was an amazing husband, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. Mike brightened the lives of those he encountered. The family welcomed friends Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Calvin Funeral Home, Hartford. Following visitation, cremation took place. TODD C. DAY Todd C. Day, 51, of Hartford, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2020, at his home.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Starks & Menchinger Chapel, 2650 Niles Rd., St. Joseph. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Todd’s name may be made to American Diabetes Association. Those wishing to send a condolence online may do so at Todd was born on Oct. 13, 1968, to Darrell and Linda (Goff) Day in Niles. He graduated from Watervliet High School. He then went on to receive his master’s degree in psychology from Western Michigan University. Todd worked as a substance abuse counselor and owned/operated his own business, Phoenix Rising Pro Counseling in Paw Paw. He enjoyed singing, dancing, theater, cooking and had many talents. Todd’s hobbies also included motorcycles, reading and firearms. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family. Todd is survived by his mother, Linda Day; daughters, Brianna Day, Brittany Day and sister, Lori Hannan. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrell Day.
