SHIRLEY MAE ANCHOR On Thursday, March 5, 2020, Shirley Mae Anchor passed away at her Hartford home, her husband Larry at her side and surrounded by her children. Shirley was born December 15, 1937, the oldest daughter of Joseph and Lilah Jordan. She was a 1955 graduate of Hartford High School. Shirley and Larry were married on July 28, 1956.

A member of the Hartford Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, Shirley enjoyed the challenge of puzzles, the beauty of butterflies and the joy of planting and tending her plants and flowers. But her greatest delight was in her children and grandchildren, seeing them grow and develop into their own unique persons. Throughout the years, both Shirley and Larry could be found at almost any ball field where a child or grandchild was playing. She loved her family and treasured every family celebration that brought them all together. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother Kenneth (Pete) Jordan, sister Patricia Rinehart, and sister-in-law Laurel Jordan. Along with her husband, Larry, Shirley is survived by her children: Deborah (Richard) Swigart, Lynda (Roger) Hiler, Lisa (Fred) Cook, Jeff Anchor, and Michael (Sheryl) Anchor. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren: Andrew (Julie) Winans, Kimberly (Chad) Kostrzewa, Jordan (Maggie) Winans, Analyse Winans, Christopher (Courtney) Cook, Shelby Cook, Corey Cook, Abby Anchor, Lexy Anchor (Fil Garcia), Olivia Anchor, Makala Anchor, Levi Anchor, and Anthony Hiler. Surviving great-grandchildren include: Brendan Nelson, Austin Nelson, Megan Nelson, Eliana Kostrzewa, Katelynn Kostrzewa, Claire Winans, Drew Winans, Nolan Winans, Jackson Winans, Mayzie Winans, Jaylen Morris, Chloe Hiler, Paisley Hiler, Aliyah Garcia, and Graham Garcia. A sixteenth great-grandchild, baby Cook, is due in September. Shirley is also survived by three brothers: Roger Jordan, Thomas (Lois) Jordan, William (Darlene) Jordan; sister Betty Jordan; sister-in-law Judith Jordan; former brother-in-law Larry (Sandy) Rinehart; and many nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Hartford. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to Caring Circle (Hospice) or to the Hartford Fire Department. Share a memory or sign the online guestbook at: www.adamspawpaw.com
