W. DUANE BODFISH Duane began his life May 30, 1937 in South Haven, Michigan and passed away peacefully on April 19, 2019 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan, surrounded by his family. Duane spent his life close to the area growing up in Casco Township and graduating from South Haven High School. He went on to complete his bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University in 1965. During his time at WMU, he met the love of his life, Gloria Jaquays, and was married October 26, 1962 and spent the next 56 years together.

Duane was employed at the Watervliet Paper Company until its closure and retired from French Paper Company in Niles, Michigan in 2004. In his retirement, he enjoyed fishing with the grandchildren, building his work of art bird houses, and spending his time at home in Watervliet. Duane was a member of the Watervliet Lions Club for 50 years and was also a member of the American Legion and Moose Club of South Haven. Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Welton and Donna Bodfish, three brothers, Ronald, Edward, and Charles. He is survived by his wife Gloria, and a sister, Jacqueline McIntosh of Madison Wisconsin, three sons Alan (Colleen Curtis) Bodfish of Watervliet, Bruce (Michelle) Bodfish of Plainwell, and Andrew (Kimberly) Bodfish of Grand Rapids. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 27, at Hutchins Funeral home at 12:00 p.m. with visitation prior starting at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made in his name to the Watervliet Lions Club, Plymouth Congregational Church of Watervliet, or the North Berrien Senior Center. JACQUELIN L. HAMMOND Jacquelin L. Hammond, 81, of Coloma, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at her residence. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Joseph First United Methodist Church located at 2950 Lakeview Avenue in St. Joseph. Visitation will take place Thursday, April 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Duffield & Pastrick Family Funeral Home in Coloma. Jackie was born January 13, 1938 in Benton Harbor; the daughter of Jack and Maxine (Becker) Goins. She owned and operated Limberlost Nursery in Hagar Township for 18 years prior to her retirement in 2002. Jackie loved all things that involved nature and the outdoors. She was an animal lover, which included several horses she owned over the years. She was active in volunteer work with her church that included several mission trips to Haiti, as well as with the Watervliet TEC Therapeutic Equestrian Center and the mentorship program with Benton Harbor schools. She also enjoyed camping and was a member of the Corvette Coventry of Southwest Michigan with her husband Gary, who preceded her in death in September of 2018. Jackie had a very outgoing personality that allowed her to easily make friends with anyone she met. Above all else, Jackie loved her family the most and spending time with her precious grandchildren. Jackie is survived by her six children, Charles (Mary) Duncan Jr. of Weston, Fla., Chris Draper of Coloma, Julie (Sonny) Taylor of Franklin, N.C., Jeff Duncan of Coloma, Todd (Jodi) Hammond of Coloma and Chad Hammond of Benton Harbor; her brother Jan (Bette) Goins of Grand Haven; her sister Jill Carrizales of Gastonia, N.C.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
