Police Reports By Annette Christie Watervliet Township Police activity During the month of May the Berrien County Sheriff’s deputies assigned to the Watervliet Township police patrol made five felony arrests and 23 misdemeanor arrests. They performed 85 traffic stops and wrote 42 citations. The deputies assisted other agencies 22 times and provided motorist assists three times. There were 53 original complaints in Watervliet Township and the police provided 13 follow-ups. Deputy Guy Puffer, who was a lead officer during the Lane Memorial Day Car Show, said that all went well with the exception of the accident at the intersection of M-140 and Dan Smith Road Drug dealers arrested On Thursday, June 6, SWET-West detectives along with members of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department executed a narcotics search warrant in the City of Benton Harbor. Davone Williams, 29, was arrested following a two-month investigation into the distribution of heroin and crystal meth at his home in Benton Harbor City. During the execution of the search warrant, SWET detectives located approximately a half ounce of heroin, an ounce of crystal meth, and other drug related items on the property. Williams was lodged in Berrien County Jail on the following charges: Delivery of Methamphetamine 2nd; Delivery of Heroin 2nd; Delivery of Heroin 2nd; Possession with Intent to deliver Heroin 2nd; Possession with Intent to deliver Meth 2nd. On Friday, June 14, SWET-West detectives along with Berrien Tactical Response Unit, and Berrien County Road Patrol executed a narcotics search warrant in the City of Benton Harbor. Troy McClinton, 37, and Ricky Coates, 37, were both arrested following a three-month investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics. During the execution of the search warrant SWET detectives located crack cocaine, packaging material, scales, ammo, and other drug related items. McClinton was lodged in Berrien County Jail on a possession with the intent to deliver crack charge. Coates was lodged in Berrien County Jail on the following charges: Possession crack cocaine 2nd; Possession ammo by a felon. The Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) is comprised of sworn law enforcement personnel from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, Allegan Police Department, Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, Barry County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Covert Township Police Department, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, South Haven Police Department, Saint Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, and Sturgis Police Department.
