Police Report By Annette Christie Heroin dealers busted On Tuesday July 16, 2019, members of the Southwest Enforcement Team, Michigan State Police, and Berrien County Sheriff’s Department conducted an arrest operation at the Walmart located in Niles Township. George L. Harris (27) was arrested following a one-month investigation into the distribution of heroin in Niles Township, and neighboring City of South Bend. As a result of this operation SWET detectives seized approximately fifty-four (54) grams of heroin. During the operation, the suspect vehicle, driven by Harris, attempted to flee the area and struck a detective’s car. Harris was then taken into custody. The second suspect, Robert Williams (25) who was a passenger in the suspect’s car, was also arrested during this operation. During a search of the suspect’s car, detectives located 54 grams of heroin, several digital scales, a Glock pistol with a 50 round drum magazine, and other narcotics related items. George Harris was lodged in Berrien County Jail on the following charges: Delivery of heroin, 2nd offense; Possession with intent to deliver heroin over 50 grams, 2nd offense; Felon in possession of a firearm; Possession of a firearm in commission of a felony; Destruction of police property; and Maintaining a drug vehicle. Robert Williams was lodged in Berrien County Jail on the following charges: Possession with intent to deliver heroin over 50 grams; Felon in possession of a firearm; Possession of a firearm in commission of a felony; and an out of state warrant for armed robbery and parole absconder, The Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET) is comprised of sworn law enforcement personnel from the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office, Allegan Police Department, Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, Barry County Sheriff’s Office, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Covert Township Police Department, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Kalamazoo Township Police Department, Michigan State Police, South Haven Police Department, Saint Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, and Sturgis Police Department.
